Over half of roof blowoffs are related to perimeter failures.

09/28/2017

Due to the recent hurricanes, storm damage in the roofing industry has been a hot topic. Factory Mutual Insurance Co. conducted a windstorm study that found 59% of roof failures could be attributed to perimeter failure.

It doesn't take much wind to cause significant damage to flat commercial roof systems. In fact, a 40 mph to 50 mph wind can pull off loose fascia and edge flashing. The stronger the wind and older the roof, the more likelihood that some damage may occur. Periodic inspections throughout the year and right after strong wind storms is recommended so that you can spot issues early.

Cotterman & Company, Inc. is ANSI / SPRI ES-1 &  UL Certified for our roof edge products.  Our in-house shop fabrication for edge metal meets this specific wind design standard. This allows us to field measure, custom fabricate, and install architectural metal achieving a superior fit. We control the schedule and time of completion, resulting in better, faster service.

The proper gauge, coverage, fastening, and installation is the difference between roof edging and scrap metal blowing in the wind.
